How The Gulf Money decides what to publish, how we source it, how we handle affiliate relationships, and how to tell us when we get something wrong.
Who we are
The Gulf Money is an independent finance publisher for English-speaking expats living in the GCC. Everything on the site is produced by our Editor Team and reviewed before publication. We do not accept sponsored posts, paid rankings, or guest posts.
Bylines on The Gulf Money read as By The Gulf Money Editor Team. We use internal desk names (Investment Desk, Real Estate Desk, Retirement Desk, Tax Desk, Banking Desk, Remittance Desk) to indicate which team owns a piece. The desk model lets specialists own their coverage areas without overclaiming individual credentials none of our editors would be comfortable staking their own licence on.
The desks
- Investment Desk - brokers, ETFs, portfolios, markets, retirement decumulation.
- Real Estate Desk - property purchase, mortgages, rental yields, service charges.
- Retirement Desk - end-of-service benefits, long-term saving, pensions, cross-border pension transfers.
- Tax Desk - tax residency, GCC VAT and corporate tax, home-country obligations (UK, US, India, and other common expat origins).
- Banking Desk - current accounts, salary transfer, credit cards, remittance.
- Remittance Desk - money transfer corridors, costs, FX margins, timing.
How we source facts
- Every regulatory, tax, or visa claim traces to the relevant authority: the UAE Federal Tax Authority, ZATCA in Saudi Arabia, the UAE Central Bank, SAMA, the DFSA, ADGM FSRA, the QCB, the CBB, the CBK, and the CBO for the GCC; HMRC, the IRS, and the India Income Tax Department for home-country obligations. We link to the primary source, not to secondary coverage of it.
- Every broker, bank, or product fee traces to the provider's own current published rate card or fee schedule. Where the provider changes a fee, we update the page and stamp the "Reviewed on" date at the top.
- We do not publish numbers we cannot source. If a specific fee, threshold, or day-count rule is not on a provider or regulator site we can point to, we do not put a number on the page.
- News in the daily digest comes from named third-party publications and every headline links out to the source. We do not republish the story.
How we review broker and bank pages
Broker and bank pages summarise what is publicly documented on the provider's own site plus the applicable regulator's licensing register. We do not publish scores or star ratings. Where a "good for X" or "considerations" box appears, the reason is stated on the page and traces to the fee schedule or product page.
How we use AI tooling
We use AI models (currently Claude Sonnet) as a research and drafting assistant, grounded on live web sources and on our internal reference data (brokers, ETFs, countries, regulators). Every AI-drafted page is reviewed before it goes public. AI drafts that cannot be verified against a primary source are not published. AI is never permitted to invent a fee, a rule, or a source URL.
Affiliates and independence
The Gulf Money may earn commission when a reader opens an account through a link on our site. All affiliate links carry the "sponsored" relationship attribute; every page that carries one prints a disclosure above the first link. Affiliate arrangements never influence which providers we cover or what we write about them.
See the full disclosures page for revenue sources, cookies, and the legal terms that govern your use of the site.
Corrections policy
If we get something wrong we want to hear about it. Email us at corrections@thegulfmoney.com with the URL and the specific claim you are flagging. Substantive corrections are made and dated at the bottom of the affected page. Typos and small clarifications are quietly fixed.
